Akbar Faizal

Akbar Faizal is a seasoned politician and entrepreneur with over a decade of experience in Indonesia's legislative body (Member of the House of Representatives, 2009–2019), representing South Sulawesi II under two different political parties: Hanura and NasDem. His passion for organization and leadership began in junior high school and matured during his years in various student movements, where he honed his political instincts. Before entering politics, Akbar started his career as a journalist, working for several print and regional media outlets across Indonesia. His formal political career began with the Democratic Party during its formative years, where he was appointed as the first Chairman of the Democratic Party Youth Wing. He later joined the Hanura Party, which marked his first entry into parliament. In 2013, before the end of his five-year term, Akbar transitioned to the NasDem Party and was successfully re-elected for the 2014–2019 period.
Drawing from his extensive political experience particularly in parliamentary and presidential elections Akbar founded PatraData Dashboard System, a company specializing in big data algorithms for electoral processes. Today, Patra Data is recognized as a political consultancy firm built on data-driven strategies, with proprietary algorithms tailored to political analysis. Over time, the company has expanded its expertise to include business research and consulting services.

Politician and senior journalist Akbar Faizal raised questions regarding the corruption of regional budgets—which he views as having become a feeding ground for local oligarchs due to exorbitant political costs—during an exchange with President Prabowo Subianto. This discussion took place during the "Presiden Prabowo Menjawab" (President Prabowo Answers) program at the Garuda Yaksa complex in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, and aired on the *Akbar Faizal Uncensored* podcast on Wednesday (September 16, 2026). Akbar highlighted data from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) identifying five "ailments" plaguing political parties: a broken cadre development system, entrapment in acute pragmatism, domination by local oligarchs and political dynasties, the neglect of political education functions, and their role as epicenters for illicit funding.

The award was presented during the celebration of KGI’s 17th anniversary at the National Library Auditorium in Jakarta on Friday (September 11, 2026). The Kabar Award 2026 honors national figures, academics, regional leaders, and corporations recognized for making tangible contributions in their respective fields. The awards ceremony was a highlight of KGI’s 17th-anniversary celebration, which bore the theme "17 Years of Trusted Transformation – Rooted in Journalism, Growing Beyond Media."
Low Public Trust in KPU and Bawaslu Must Be Addressed; Government Urged to Find a Solution
Perludem Executive Director Titi Anggraini highlighted the low level of public trust in the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) amidst discussions on developing a digital-based election system.
