The government, through the Task Force for Improving Palm Oil Industry Governance and Optimizing State Revenue, plans to legalize, or amend, millions of hectares of oil palm plantations suspected of being located in forest areas. However, this government move is considered likely to spark chaos.
This amnesty is scheduled to take place no later than November 2, 2023. The legal basis for this amnesty is Articles 110A and B of the Job Creation Law (Ciptaker), which regulate business permits in forest areas and sanctions for violations.
